I have seen a lot of beautiful watercolor journals by various artists and while impressed, at the back of my mind, I am afraid that I can never produce a beautiful journal as theirs. I am also aware that only volume will improve my own techniques, but how can I produce anything if I am fearful to even start? I have made numerous self-promises that I must create more, but somehow I am always unable to start. Clare Walker Leslie corrected my over-perfectionistic tendencies about art by showing me that putting the idea down on paper is what matters, and the execution will just follow. Clare’s journals are refreshing, pretty in their own right and alive. She may not be the master of watercolour techniques, but she is definitely a master of everyday journaling and observation. Clare finds beauty in the mundane, and in her eyes, nature is everywhere even in the least expected places.
